Apprenticeship with ForTheHorse:
The students have the opportunity to actually
train horses under our daily supervision.
If a student
stays here long enough (2 to 3 years) they will
know how to actually train without supervision.
The study is practical with a theoretical knowledge base and is based on
at least 3 lessons per week (private or semi-private) with exposure to
numerous horses. Students learn by practical problem solving with
the many different breeds, types and education level of horses at
ForTheHorse. ForTheHorse has a year round apprenticeship program. Apprentices receive a comprehensive education on the entire training of the horse, including every facet of their care, health, and training from a holistic and natural point of view. Apprentices also take part in theory sessions which can include lectures and round-table discussions, as well as homework researching the concepts that are taught here. There are no wages, however the apprenticeship is valued at $2,125 per month. In addition, the apprentice may audit the Philippe Karl School of Legerete closed and open clinics free of charge.. The candidate will be required to do daily chores, horse related and non-horse related. The work is not difficult but it does require fitness. To be successful at ForTheHorse, the student will need a solid work ethic, be energetic, responsible and able to follow instructions. There are two options for apprentices as follows... |

Previous Apprentices:

Sheblie Fredenhagen, from Alaska, and her horse Neira. Shelbie was apprentice for spring, summer, fall of 2011.
"This is a
program for the committed equestrian who is searching for a holistic immersion
that goes into horse management, their well being, and care; while also
encompassing riding and training to a high level. Participating in this program
has increased my awareness to take in and really see the whole horse in order to
obtain the clarity and balance that both horse and rider seek in each other."

Nina Kliebach, from Belgium, with Sugar Maple - apprentice for Summer and Fall 2010

Mariah Fisher, from Nova Scotia, Canada, with Melody. Mariah was apprentice for spring and summer 2010.

... I most certainly could not have done it without the incredible people and horses here at For The Horse. This summer has helped me to expand my knowledge of the equine industry and solidify my choices for the future. I highly recommend this apprentice program to any young person who has the thirst for knowledge and a strong desire to further themselves in the equine world.
